Emergency Dental Treatment
If it’s a real emergency, please call 911 or during non-office hours call *425-381-6961*
At Bothell Dental Care, we know that dental emergencies don’t come with advance warning. Therefore, we schedule walk-in times into our schedule sheets every day. That way, when toothache strikes, patients can call in that morning and get an appointment either that day or, at the latest, the next working day. We don’t tell you to come in and wait all day with the “hope” that we can squeeze you in — we get you in.
The Cause of a Toothache
There are several causes of toothache. Tooth decay is the most common, but other causes may include a tooth abscess, inflammation of the tooth pulp, gum disease, a cracked or broken tooth, or exposed tooth root. A wisdom tooth is a very common cause of tooth pain, as there is often not enough room for this type of tooth to grow in properly. While there can be some relief through home toothache remedies or over the counter medications, eventually the “root cause” of the pain will need to be addressed.
Emergency Dental Treatment – Treatment for Toothache
There are a number of ways that a dentist will determine the cause of your pain and the best treatment for it. If the pain is due to tooth decay, the decayed area will be removed and a filling will be placed. Also, if the pain is due to problems with the root of the tooth, then a root canal may be in order. If the tooth is impacted or the above methods will not work then a tooth extraction may be required.
How Long Should You Wait Before You See a Dentist?
Most tooth pain will only get worse. You should see our dentist as soon as possible, not only to find some relief for your pain but also to prevent any more damage to the tooth or pulp. There are some complications that might occur, as well if the situation is not corrected. If a decayed tooth is not properly treated, it could lead to severe infection, which could spread to the sinuses or jaw bone, or even blood poisoning.
Prevention
In order to prevent tooth decay or other problems associated with a toothache, you should maintain proper oral hygiene. This included brushing your teeth at least twice a day, flossing once a day, and seeing a dentist twice a year for examinations and professional oral cleaning.
You should seek treatment for a toothache as soon as possible to prevent future complications, but also to find relief for your pain. We understand how much it hurts! Our professional staff will ensure that the cause of your pain is addressed and that you find relief for it. Toothache or tooth pain is caused when the root of a tooth is irritated. The intensity of the pain may vary from a dull ache to a sharp stabbing pain.
